The World Food Programme, the food aid organization of the United Nations, is seeking a candidate to assume the following function:
IT Assistant – “Deliver as One” ICT Common Services
Special Service Agreement (G5 equivalent)
Expected appointment date: Immediate
Duration: Six months Location: Dar es Salaam
The incumbent will be based in Dar es Salaam and will report to the Project Manager – ICT “Deliver as One”. The incumbent will be responsible for the successful monitoring and management of ICT infrastructure “Deliver as One” operational objectives as determined by the Project Manager. Within delegated authority, the staff member will be responsible for the following duties:
Primary duties and responsibilities:
* Oversee Wireless infrastructure and related networking components.
* Monitor backbone connectivity to ensure availability.
* Oversee Access points and Wireless Mesh Units
* Oversee the Data Centre Networking environment , switching ,routing Firewall
* Monitor and manage Firewall and VPN between Agencies
* Monitor and manage Agency Integration in Data Centre (UNDP,WFP)
* Ensure connectivity for each agency to the data center.
* Ensure all components of Data Centre are in place and functioning.
* Oversee Network management and monitoring systems.
* Provide clear reports on all of the above.
* Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: At least four years of progressively responsible job related experience in information technology or telecommunications or information management, such as, WAN/LAN networking – CISCO router, firewall, Microsoft operating systems, wireless connectivity ( preferably Proxim equipment). Experience in client support, such as, a Help Desk or User Support Unit. Ability to identity problems and report concerns to management.
Knowledge : Good working knowledge of Microsoft software applications- Windows server 2008, Proficiency in use of computers, spreadsheets and data software. Proficiency in technical reporting.
Language: Fluency in both oral and written English and Kiswahili.
Critical Success Factors: Good analytical skills, resourcefulness, initiative, maturity of judgement, tact, negotiation skills, ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing, ability to work in a team, and establish effective working relations with persons of different national and cultural backgrounds. Ability to cope with situations which may threaten health or safety; flexibility in accepting work assignments outside normal desk description. Ability to deal patiently and tactfully with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
